Today marks the end of the High Schoolers Summer Program at Jubail Industrial College. It was a six-week program. We have faced some challenges in it. First, students are in the mood for vacation because they see people around them have theirs. That's why sometimes they don't care to attend although they paid for this program. Second, the heat makes them unwilling to wake up in the morning and come to learn. Third, you need to repeat yourself a lot for them to understand what you are trying to teach them.
That being said, we tried to encourage them by creating a reading club. We give them a book at the beginning of the week and ask them to read it. They make notes of the new words and ideas. In the week after, they gather with teachers in a big room to discuss the book they were asked to read.
To make memories that will last forever, I told them my story with English and how I learned it. I also gave every student a piece of wood with their names on it.
As with any other experience, I learned a lot. I think we reached the finish line with good results.
