Growth begins when we move beyond simply learning information and start applying it in meaningful ways. My Forward journey taught me that communication, consistency, and personal growth are deeply connected.
Have you ever felt that you know what to say, but it just doesn’t land the way you want? I’m an English teacher, so communication is at the heart of everything I do. But before joining Forward, I noticed that even when my message was clear, it didn’t always connect with my students. Some would lose focus, while others wouldn’t fully engage, and I knew something was missing. I wasn’t struggling with language; I was struggling with impact. I needed a way to make my communication more meaningful, not just correct.
That’s when I discovered the EPIC framework from the Communicating for Impact module, which stands for Empathy, Purpose, Insight, and Conversation. It completely changed the way I structure my conversations. Instead of just explaining, I became more intentional by engaging emotions, presenting ideas clearly, involving my audience, and ending with a purpose.
For example, I remember when a student came to me and said, “Teacher, I like how you understand the needs of every student and help them improve through your kindness and guidance.” That moment reassured me that I was becoming a better communicator. Communication isn’t just about what you say; it’s about how people experience it.
The real challenge was staying consistent and applying those lessons every day. What helped me most was keeping things practical and simple. I focused on one idea and practiced it in my daily teaching. I also created small reminders for myself. Before class, I would ask myself, “How will I apply this today?” That question helped me stay consistent. I stayed connected to my purpose and reminded myself that I joined to grow, not just to finish the program. Finally, I accepted that progress doesn’t have to be perfect. Small, consistent efforts made the biggest difference.
Looking back, I realized that growth does not happen overnight. It happens through small actions, meaningful experiences, and the willingness to keep learning. If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be this: don’t just go through the program—live it.
Try to apply what you learn immediately, even in small ways. The real value of Forward comes when you connect it to your daily life. Also, be open to experimenting. Not everything will work the first time perfectly, and that’s part of the process. Stay engaged and ask yourself questions like, “How can I use this today?” or “Where does this show up in my life?” And finally, enjoy the journey.
This isn’t just about skills; it’s about growth. You’re not just learning something new… you’re becoming someone new.
In the end, the Forward journey is more than completing lessons or gaining new skills. It is about transforming the way we think, communicate, and grow every day.
